An accomplished entrepreneur and consummate manager of people and businesses, he sits on the board of several successful businesses. Prominent amongst these are 9Mobile Nigeria, SEPLAT Petroleum (Nigerian independent producer), Platform Petroleum Limited (Nigerian independent producer), Intels (Oilfields) Services Nigeria Limited (Intels is the largest marine logistics company in Nigeria). He is the Chairman of Enclo Limited a Nigerian company providing currency operations support services to the Central Bank of Nigeria and other financial institutions as well as security documents design and printing solutions. HRH Nasir Bayero Chairs the board of Misana Energy Resources Limited, an E&P company. Misana are a joint operator of Block 25 in The Republic of Sudan. Born into the Royal family of Kano, Prince Nasir Bayero holds a B.A Honors degree in Mass Communication as well as a Certificate in German Language. Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero is the current Emir of Bichi Emirate in Kano State.

 

Dr Funmi Adewara

Dr Funmi Adewara is a British-Nigerian Physician and Cambridge trained Bioscience multi-award winning entrepreneur and a globally recognised telehealth expert, with a background in Medicine, Pharmaceutical and Business Development. Her career spans more than fifteen years working within the NHS UK and a stint in the Pharmaceutical industry as a Drug Safety Physician.

Funmi is passionate about changing the poor narrative of healthcare in underserved communities and has led a multi-disciplinary team to design comprehensive telehealth program that addresses multiple challenges such as shortage of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, long distance travel, and high treatment costs. Dr Adewara contributes to policy formulation on healthcare and particularly around telehealth programs for Africa at both local and regional levels serving as an external reviewer to the Africa Development Bank, contributor to United Nations, World Health Summit and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN. Dr Adewara has earned herself and Mobihealth multiple awards globally. She was one of the seven Winners of the World Bank SDGs & Her 2020 Awards amongst 2400 entries globally; Sanofi Africa-Tech Challenge (Winner, Category 2) which held virtually in Paris on the 11th of June 2020 amongst 268 contestants across 34 countries. Under Funmi’s visionary leadership, Mobihealth pioneered telehealth in the Nigerian Air Force in 2021, the 1st of it’s kind on the continent.

Funmi led the strategic partnership deal of the Union Bank of Nigeria with Mobihealth to expansion services to it’s >6m customer base and to establish walk-in telehealth clinics across 300 branches nationwide.

Funmi is an International Speaker featured on many platforms including the United Nations Committee on Science Technology and Innovation, 2019-2020 panel ”Harnessing Rapid Technological Change for Inclusive and Sustainable Development”, a contribution towards policy paper; The CSIS Africa Policy Accelerator, APA, a program committed to charting new directions for U.S. – Africa policy. Funmi is an External Peer Reviewer of the Global Community of Practice (G-COP) Policy Documents on Policies for Inclusive Health in Post COVID-19 Africa and a Speaker at the African Development Institute Policy Seminar on; Building Resilient Health Systems; Policies for Inclusive Health in Post-COVID-19 Africa sponsored by the African Development Bank, AfDB.

Other awards for which Funmi has been recognized are the Prof Akinkugbe Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Leadership Award, Zenith Global Health Award for advancing health with technology and the African Female Tech Founders (FTF) Award sponsored by the UK government amongst others. Funmi, was invited by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson Africa-UK investment summit in January 2020.

She has featured as a panelist on Forbes Africa and Philips’ Africa Future Health Summit by CNBC, United Nations Committee on Science Technology and Innovation, African Development Bank, African Investment Forum, Channels TV, BBC radio’s Focus Africa, Channel 5 TV in the UK, Financial Times London, Telegraph and Voice of Africa – Largest African diaspora news channel. Funmi is recognized as one of the Most Influential People of African descent. Recently, in October 2022, under her leadership, Mobihealth was awarded a $1m grant by the United States Trade and Developmet Agency to extend telehealth services to other African Countries.

Prof. JAY H. SANDERS

Prof. Sanders is a renowned Professor of Medicine and health expert trained in Harvard who under the Clinton Administration directed the U.S. telemedicine initiatives to the G-8 nations. He has been a consultant to the WHO on Health Telematics, as well to the Russian Telemedicine Foundation.

Dr. Sanders has spent the majority of his professional career involved in teaching, patient care and health care research. Identified by his colleagues as “the Father of Telemedicine” he has spent over 30 years in the development and implementation of telecommunications and information technologies as a means of addressing the problems relating to quality, cost and access to care that now plague our health care system.He was the Principal Investigator of a grant from the NSF that represented the first application of telemedicine into correctional healthcare, and in 1991 he designed the telemedicine system for the State of Georgia that interfaced with rural hospitals, public health facilities, correctional institutions, ambulatory health care centers, military bases and public school classrooms. This was the first statewide telemedicine program in the country and served as the model for many other states to follow. The author of numerous articles on telemedicine, he was an Associate Editor of the Telemedicine and e-Health Journal, and has served on the editorial boards of the Telemedicine Newsletter, Telemedicine Report, The Telemedicine Connection, Telemedicine and Telehealth Networks and Telemedicine and Virtual Reality. He is also an editor of the book, “Telemedicine: Theory and Practice” by Charles C. Thomas publication. Dr. Sanders is a consultant for many academic, governmental, public and industrial organizations nationally and internationally.

He was formerly Visiting Professor at Yale University School of Medicine and Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the Telemedicine Program at the Medical College of Georgia, where he held the Eminent Scholar Chair in Telemedicine. He heads the Medical Advisory Committee of the National Science Foundation – North Carolina State University ASSIST Nanosystems Center.

Previously, Efe served as a Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Kuramo Capital Management, an independent investment management firm focused on alternative assets in emerging and frontier markets, where she advised on numerous cross-border investments deals across Africa and managed the firm’s fund formation processes. At Kuramo, she participated in the firm’s Investment Committee meetings, advised on structuring cross-border private equity transactions, negotiated transactions, and drafted agreements. She managed the legal transaction processes from inception to close and worked on diverse deals ranging from consumer goods to financial services. In addition, Efe also advised the firm and its portfolio companies on compliance and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters.
