The Hebrew Women
Caesarean Section and Myth
She has had 3 previous caesarean section(C/S) and we agreed that this one would be C/S. For 7 months we monitored her pregnancy as she attended her Ante-Natal Clinics regularly but this morning something happened… Our conversation…
Woman: Doc I am not interested in having any C/S
Me: Madam, are you joking right now?
Woman: Doc, I am serious, I have heard of so many bad things
Me: Sit down let’s talk…
Why Caesarean section
What Is C/S?
C/S means “Caesarean Section” which is a surgical procedure done in a pregnant woman in order to deliver her baby.
What Are The Reasons For C/S?
They are divided into 3 main groups
- Mother and Child
- Maternal Reasons
- Child Reasons
Mother and Child Reasons
- Feto Pelvic Disproportion
Don’t run away, let me explain
This simply means that the baby’s head cannot pass through the mother’s pelvis (Birth canal).
It occurs mainly in first time pregnancies.
Attempt to push can be fatal.
2. Maternal Reasons
- Previous Surgeries on the Womb
Surgeries on the womb such as C/S or fibroid removal leaves scars on the walls of the womb and weakens it.
The pressure of pushing can lead to the scars breaking causing severe bleeding.
That’s why C/S is advised.
- Birth Canal Obstruction
-Sometimes there might be some tumors blocking the baby’s birth canal.
-Instead of letting the baby suffer and die because its way has been blocked, a C/S is advised
- Maternal Diseases
-Diseases such as Diabetes makes the babies bigger than normal making the birth canal too small for them to pass through. –Forcing natural birth might harm the baby so C/S is advised.
- Previous Vaginal Surgeries
-The child is able to come out of the vagina because it’s elastic but when surgical procedures such as…
Circumcision, “Vaginal tightening” etc. These procedures reduce the elasticity of the vagina and in such case the baby can’t come out.
3. Child Reason
- Foetal Distress
It’s an emergency and it means the baby needs to come out immediately.
Once the doctor notices that the child is not breathing well, moving well, he would advise for C/S because it wouldn’t make sense passing a child through stress.
- Mal Presentation
The baby normally comes out with the head but there are times the baby might have the buttocks, legs and hands first and in that situation, a C/S is advised to avoid complications.
HAVING A C/S DOES NOT MAKE YOU LESS OF A WOMAN!
Stop the stigmatization!!!
